Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born at Winona Minnesota. The name was given to her by her parents for the town where she was raised as a child. Michel Horowitz is her father, while Cynthia Palmer is her mother. Ryder's dad was born into an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. The actress has a younger brother Uria and two half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder was born in the United States and moved together with her family to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. In Mendocino County, they did not have electricity. Ryder was a voracious bookworm and would spend her days studying books since she had no television. Ryder took acting classes at the age of Ryder was 12years old in the American Conservatory Theatre. At the age of fifteen, she landed her very first role on screen, in Lucas. Ryder was bullied throughout her high school years. Her hope was that her career in acting would change the way she dealt with bullying. However, the plan didn't pan out. Still, she kept chasing the dreams she had. Ryder made her breakthrough in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in 1988. Ryder was able to continue her successful performances in several movies. In 1993, Ryder was nominated two times for Academy Awards.
